While taking my morning coffee in the office, I was arranging the scripts and necessary PDBs to evaluate a GROMACS trajectory. I remember from yesterday in Susana’s computer, it took quite a lot of RAM to evaluate the whole file. Today I want to run it on my computer. Both have 8GBs of RAM, and still some GBs were taken from swap.
I was not yet sure if on the last time I format my computer to install Manjaro JWM I did put swap on the system…. I must have thought 8GB of RAM should be quite enough for my needs ¬¬
Using htop, I found today no swap was available.
Looking to GPARTED, the swap partition was there (also 8GBs)… I never found this behaviour before.
Right-clicking on the swap partition had an option called swapon. Well the name is quite suggestible. Searching for it… here’s an explanation. Swap’ing’on or swapon’ing ‘ my swap and now I have it :-)
